Opening of exhibition and book presentation in FUGA

On Tuesday, May 19th, Emiel Lamers gave a book presentation about his new book, Contemporary Architecture in Hungary, in FUGA, the Budapest Centre for Architecture. After the lecture, there was a roundtable discussion organized with Zorán Vukosávljev (author of the Hungarian book about Dutch Contemporary Architecture) and Dániel Kovács, former editor-in-chief of hg.hu. In the bookshop of FUGA, the exhibition about the book is on view until the end of the month.

Tour guiding in April

The month of April was a month of architecture tour guiding with a total of five different groups, starting in Rotterdam on  April 7th with a group of eight French architects invited by Reynaers Aluminium. On the April 8th and 9th, Lamers served as guide in Amsterdam to a group of 12  guests from Marne-La-Vallée (Epamarne/Epafrance). Afterwards, a group of 24 college students from Niort visited the Dutch capital for two days. Four days after, Lamers bicycled along the river IJ with 20 architects and employees of Arkitema from Sweden and Denmark. And finally, at the end of the month, Lamers showed the new waterfront developments in the centre of Amsterdam to an American couple from Chicago.

Lecture at conference

At a conference in Amsterdam last week about cultural collaboration with Central and Eastern Europe, I gave a lecture about Dutch architecture in Hungary. A report of the meeting, which was organised by Dutch Culture and attended by 140 people, can be downloaded here.

Back from France

The construction of the textile factory in France is nearing completion. Last week, Emiel Lamers was at the building site to meet up with the client (SCF), the maître d'oeuvre (FIRST engineering) and the various building companies involved. We are now working on the custom-made reception desk, signboards on the facades and many other details. For recent pictures of the building site, please click here.

Four architecture tours for IFFDEC from Rennes

This week, Emiel Lamers showed around 88 French students in Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Once a year, the "Institut Français de Formation en Design et Communication" from Rennes organises an excursion abroad for their students. This year they decided to come to the Netherlands. On Sunday, we walked around some new projects in the centre of Rotterdam (Market Hall, House de Hef, De Rotterdam). On Tuesday the 11th, they came to Amsterdam to see the new city library on the ODE (Oosterdokseiland) and the floating houses in IJburg. The day after, we visited the former shipyard area NDSM and the EYE film museum.

New website ELA

Welcome to the new website of Emiel Lamers Architectures (ELA). The layout of the site has been entirely redesigned. The site opens directly to the "BUILDING" index page. Twelve projects are presented with a brief explanation and several large images. Under the following tabs: WRITING, STUDYING, GUIDING and ORGANIZING one will find information about ELA’s other activities, for example Lamers's book, Contemporary Architecture in Hungary.  The PUBLICATION tab presents articles about ELA buildings and activities published in various newspapers and magazines.
This new website will automatically optimise its format and layout depending on the device you’re using (laptop, tablet, mobile phone).
